VEO-IBD Consortium

The VEO-IBD Consortium, an international and interdisciplinary alliance of experts in gastroenterology, immunology, genetics, microbiology, intestinal stem cell biology, and bioinformatics, was established to investigate these rare forms of pediatric IBD. Our ongoing mission is to elucidate the underlying genetic causes and mechanisms in order to identify potential therapeutic targets and possible cures, regardless of a patient’s origin, ethnicity, or cost. A key tenet of our efforts is
that these studies will not only benefit children with VEOIBD, but they will also reveal basic mechanisms that can be applied to IBD patients more generally. To this end, we have now demonstrated that our efforts in young children have uncovered mucosal pathways that are highly relevant to adolescent and adult CD patients.
